Thin sheet suits fine, decorative infill; thicker sheet is needed when the screen is structural, free-standing or carries a handrail. The panel is then deburred, framed if required, and finished — powder-coated, plated, lacquered or left to develop a natural patina.

Choosing the metal and finish
Three metals cover almost every interior screen:
- Brass — the warmest and most premium. It takes a brushed, antique or polished finish, ages gracefully, and suits living rooms, foyers and pooja spaces. Solid brass is the heirloom choice and the one we are known for.
- Mild steel (MS) — the workhorse. Strong, economical and easy to powder-coat in any colour (charcoal, black, bronze), it is ideal for larger spans and structural screens. It must be coated well to resist rust.
- Stainless steel — corrosion-resistant and low-maintenance, good for humid climates, kitchens and semi-outdoor spots. It can be left brushed or given a PVD coating in gold, rose or black.
Finish is where the screen picks up its character. A brushed satin finish is forgiving and contemporary; a polished or plated finish is dressier but shows fingerprints; a powder coat gives you exact colour control and the toughest surface. Laser cut vs CNC vs hand-cut jaali
These terms are used loosely, so it helps to separate them:
- Laser cutting melts or vaporises a clean line through sheet metal. It is fast, gives a very fine edge, and is ideal for intricate two-dimensional patterns in thinner gauges.
- CNC cutting (router or plasma/waterjet) is computer-controlled like laser, but better suited to thicker plate, and to materials beyond metal such as MDF or acrylic. For most metal interior screens, laser and CNC produce a similar result; the choice comes down to thickness and finish.
- Hand-cut or cast jaali is the traditional craft — more organic, with slight variation cell to cell, and a depth that a flat cut sheet does not have.

- Purpose and span — divider, feature or grille, and the exact opening size. This sets the gauge and whether a frame is needed.
- Metal and finish — brass, MS or stainless, and the finish, matched to the room and the maintenance you want.
- Pattern scale — bold, large cells read cleaner at partition size and cut faster; very fine patterns cost more and need thinner sheet.
- Fixing — floor-to-ceiling, framed, pivoting or free-standing, and how it meets the floor and ceiling.
- Privacy vs light — a denser pattern screens more and passes less light; an open one does the reverse.
